Sotonmet is a comprehensive weather information system, recording weather conditions in Southampton Water , both in real-time and historically. It uses data which ABP Southampton collects as the Port Authority for Southampton. This data is available to the Vessel Traffic Services Officers to assist them in their role of ensuring safe navigation within the Port of Southampton.

It is particularly useful since its wind information is derived from instrumentation which is situated close by the Vessel Traffic Services Centre building (50 53.01N 1 23.66W) at Southampton Dockhead, roughly at a height of 53m, well above any interference from surrounding buildings.
